Thank you for taking the time to read about Kina Beach Vineyard!
Since 22 December 2011, Kina Beach Vineyard is proudly owned by Achim Bauer and Karin Schoch. Our passion for wine and the dream of finding our place has made us travel to destinations as remote as Morocco, Canada and Chile. In fact, it was in the South of Chile that we stumbled across a posting from Dave Birt and Pam Robert - the previous owners of Kina Beach Vineyard - learning that they were looking for successors.
Dave and Pam founded Kina Beach Vineyard in 1997 after a long search for a specific site to grow world class grapes. Just like us they had been looking for the magic parameters: north facing slopes, a free draining warm site, low rainfall in late summer, excellent soil type and sea breeze thanks to proximity to the ocean. The later provides for the desired edge in grapegrowing and winemaking, namely a slow ripening process and good levels of fruit acidity. At the time, the 6 ha property was an apple orchard. Today, Kina Beach Vineyard is planted in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grapes.
The first Kina Beach Vineyard wine was released in 2003. Since then, we are very proud to say that Kina Beach wines have won many silver and gold medals, 5 star ratings and awards and there is a small hand-chosen group of fine restaurants throughout New Zealand who stock our Kina Beach Wines with pride.
You may not have heard of Kina Beach and if not then you must put it on your list of places to visit. It is an idyllic hideaway in Tasman Bay at the top of the South Island of New Zealand, about two thirds of the way from Nelson to Motueka in the direction of the famous Abel Tasman National Park. To the East there are the most stunning views across what is normally a sun-sparkling Tasman Bay as far as D'Urville Island and to the West an ever changing view of the Moutere Inlet that looks like a painting at sunset.
For Achim and myself reading about Kina Beach in the South of Chile hit home. Having lived, studied and worked in New Zealand we knew exactely, where Kina Beach Peninsula is. From the very first moment we felt that Kina Beach Vineyard would become our place and it has. We are extremely pleased that Dave and Pam are willing to let us continue their dream - and more importantly - that they support us along the way by acting as our hosts on-site.
Come and visit us! You can taste the Kina Beach wines on the vineyard (enjoying the views) by contacting us to book your own private wine tasting.
And why not stay amongst the vines that produce such wonderful wine? We offer a luxury converted schoolhouse that is nestled on the vineyard and is available for private accommodation.
Share our dream and taste our wines; we promise that you will be amazed!
