The paint is finally dry on our new Tasting Hut and we are open again for wine tastings by appointment! Don't hesitate to get in touch with Lou to arrange for a tasting, she will be happy to present you our current releases, including our new Pinot Noir Rosé 2016 as well as our Estate Pinot Noir 2015, which were only introduced to the public in September 2016.
This fly over video of Kina Beach Vineyard filmed by a drone is simply spectacular. Thank you Mirko Bocek for sharing it with us, it was great having you stay with us at Stan's Cottage over Christmas.
We have been keeping busy at Kina Beach Vineyard over winter and just in time for summer, Stan's Cottage is ready to welcome guests that are dreaming of spending a few days and nights in the heart of a vineyard. The cottage was originally built for the charming Stan as his retirement cottage. Choosing to keep the name in his memory it has been lovingly renovated and refurnished. The view from Stan's Cottage over rows of Pinot Noir, the Moutere Inlet with its ever changing tides and Mount Arthur and the surrounding ranges in the distance is simply incredible and provides the perfect setting for a romantic getaway.
The 2016 Nelson Wine New Release Tasting is approaching fast and we are very excited to not only showcase our new releases this year, but to also introduce two Kina Beach Vineyard first time releases to the wider public. Come by and try our Pinot Noir Rosé 2016 and our Pinot Noir Estate 2015. Alex is very keen to hear what you think of our new kids on the block and how they hold up against the older boys and girls in the Kina Beach Vineyard wine range.
Bob Campell has recently reviewed our Kina Beach Reserve Chardonnay 2013 and has given it 92 points. The fact that our flagship wine is continuosly awarded gold and silver medals fills us with joy but also underlines the success of our viticultural practice. Great wines do start in the vineyard. Kudos to our faithful soldiers in rows 74 to 131 and of course great compliments to our viticultural team.
The Great Taste Trail, a further section of the New Zealand Cycle Trial, has recently opened and immediately become a favourite with locals and visitors alike. No wonder, it features the best the Tasman region has to offer! Take out that bike and stop by Kina Beach Vineyard for a wine tasting. We will happily courier any wine that you cannot carry to your home. Or do like the ladies in this quaint video and get a bottle of our range for your picnic on Kaiteriteri beach.
Sam Kim has recently reviewed our Kina Beach Reserve Chardonnay 2011 for Wine Orbit and awarded it 93 points. "This is a beautifully rich Chardonnay filled with yellow peach, mango, mandarin and vanillin oak characters. The palate is concentrated and velvety with creamy texture and plenty or gorgeous flavours. Brilliantly expressed, the wine is sumptuos and delicious, and offers great drinking. At its best: now to 2017". We are proud - and could not agree more!
For the Nelson Wine Region, the annual new release tasting is a key event as the local producers release their latest vintages to both public and trade customers. Kina Beach Vineyard was represented by Alex Wall, our new Sales and Marketing Manager. Watch the video for a first hand impression of the event.
The Old Schoolhouse has reopened and is proudly showing her new style. Originally built as a Redwood Valley Schoolhouse in the 1930s, she has served as boutique luxury acommodation to the guests of Kina Beach Vineyard for more than 10 years. During the past month she has undergone a well deserved facelift. For those who know her well and are a little worried, be assured: She is still the same grand old lady with those lovely bones. But that modern outfit looks just great on her. Browse the gallery and see for yourself.
Kina Beach Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay 2010 was awarded 5 stars and came 5th in the recent Cuisine Chardonnay Tasting for which wine judge John Belsham and his panel tasted over 100 Chardonnays from New Zealand. "This racy Nelson number completes the five-star quintet in the Top 10. Toasty, flinty complexity greets the nose and goes the distance, signing off with an exclamation mark. Vibrant acidity drives the citrusy fruit in a wine of personality and power." Needless to say we are very proud!
Kina Beach Vineyard launches its new website and reveals its new look. The punchy black and white logo featuring a kina shell conveys what Kina Beach wines stand for: delicacy paired with strength, an expression of true terroir. Check out the new website offering many enhanced features, such as extensive wines notes, upgraded webshop, direct booking calendar for the Old Schoolhouse and much more. And for those not yet expert in Kiwiana. While kina is the Māori name for the shell of the New Zealand sea urchin, Aotearoa is Māori for New Zealand.
Wine writer Michael Cooper has recently reviewed Kina Beach Vineyard's Sauvignon Blanc 2011 and has awarded it 4 stars. "The 2011 vintage is fleshy, with strong, fresh and lively ripe-fruit flavours, a touch of complexity, good texture and a smooth, lingering finish". An excellent result and very definitely not Marlborough style.
This wine has also been awarded Pure Bronze at the reknown Air New Zealand Wine Awards 2012.
Also this year Kina Beach Vineyard participated in Nelson's New Release Tasting, a key event for Nelson based producers where they can present their newly released wines to both trade and retail customers. Held at the Boathouse on the waterfront and backed by fantastic weather it was a terrific event with many happy faces. If you have missed out on tasting our newly released Reserve Chardonnay 2010 or our Reserve Pinot Noir 2009 at this event, have a quick read of the reviews done by wine writers Michael Cooper and Bob Campbell MW and get yourself a few bottles through the new webshop!
Master of Wine Bob Campbell is not easy to please. However, we knew that this Reserve Pinot Noir 2009 is a gem. Still with potential to cellar it is just starting to drink beautifully. We are extremely pleased that Bob confirmed our assessment and awarded 87 points to our Kina Beach Reserve Pinot Noir 2009. "A delicate Pinot Noir with appealing purity and a charming, almost ethereal texture. Red cherry, strawberry and subtle mineral flavours. Although relatively light in colour the wine certainly has power and a lengthy finish."
And we did it again! In his recent review for Winestate NZ, Michael Cooper has awarded Kina Beach Reserve Chardonnay 2010 five straight stars. "Full of personality. From a cool, coastal site, it is bright and youthful in colour, with a highly fragrant, complex bouquet. The palate is focused, poised and minerally, with deep stonefruit flavours, hints of butter and butterscotch, a fine thread of acidity, and notable drive and length. Fine value at NZD 30." We could not agree more!
